How is student life at the Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen?

The life of a medical student, as we can all imagine, is challenging, but it is also highly rewarding. Most practical classes require compulsory attendance; however, they are very interactive and give students the opportunity to explore the subject firsthand. For example, anatomy is a particularly demanding discipline, but during practical sessions students alternate between theoretical instruction and dissection. This approach allows them to see and handle real human structures, helping them to understand the subject in a concrete and meaningful way.

Many students also practice sport and physical activity as a way to maintain both physical and mental well-being. Engaging in sports helps students manage stress, stay motivated, and achieve a healthier balance between their studies and personal life.

What accommodation options are available?

Students can choose between the university dormitories, located close to the university, or private housing, where they can either live on their own or they can share with other students.

What support does Pilsmed offer for new medical students?

Pilsmed offers extensive support in many areas. First of all, it organizes presentations for each year of the medical program to explain how to approach the subjects, credits, and exams. These sessions provide an overview of each course, along with study tips shared from the perspective of students who have already completed them.

In addition, Pilsmed’s Academic Affairs team organizes workshops throughout the year to help students better understand their subjects and to offer valuable revision opportunities before credit examinations.

Finally, Pilsmed also coordinates a wide range of recreational activities, such as Freshers’ Week, which is a great opportunity for first-year students to meet one another, as well as parties, themed events, and sports activities.

What study materials do most students use?

There is a wide range of study materials available to help students prepare for their credits and exams. Some of these resources are provided directly by professors through Moodle, SIS, or during lectures, which is why class attendance is particularly important. In addition to official university materials, students can also make use of learning platforms offered by the university, such as Amboss, as well as notes shared by other students and uploaded to the Archives folder organized by Pilsmed.

What happens if I fail an exam, do retakes exist?

Yes, they do exist. For each exam, students are allowed a maximum of three attempts, which must be completed before the end of the summer examination period, usually around mid-September. Retake exams can be booked through SIS or arranged directly with the professors.
